A great way to apply for a new credit card is through a referral.
Any time anyone you know is going to be applying for a credit card soon, maybe it's a credit card that you already have, it not only helps you out, but it helps them out. All they need is your referral link.
Not all banks offer a referral system, only the top banks do. You can learn which ones do in my course. For the sake of this blog, I'll go over American Express and the method of how they offer their referral program.
In this blog, I'm going to be talking about the importance of
having a referral link
knowing where to find it
and the benefits you can use to refer it to other people
To access the referral code, all you need to do is log in to your American Express account and then go to the account home page.
Scroll down a bit and you should see the "Refer Now" option under recent transactions.
As you can see, with this particular card I'm using (AMEX Business Platinum), I could earn 20,000 Membership points for each approved account that comes in through my code.
For some reason, it's capped at 55,000 points - even though you get the points in increments of 20. So if you refer up to three people a year, you can have $550.
However, if you redeem those points through travel partners, that can turn into a lot more than $550.
Jack McColl’s Referral Card Ideas
The best way to make sure your friends get approved for the cards you refer to them depends on your relationship with the bank. If you are a high spender, not only will they have a higher chance of getting approved, but they'll get an awesome sigh up bonus through your referral.
Some of those look like:
Getting a large number of points if they spend a certain amount within a period of time
Reduced or no interest
Boosted points during a period of time.
A strategy I like to do when making a referral is to go through all the cards on my account and get the referral link that you can copy and paste and put it into a word document. Then, you can access it without having to log in every time.
What is the Best Way to Get Referrals?
If you have a good relationship with the bank, you can qualify for a higher spending limit and a larger amount of points from the start.
The best strategy for getting a good referral bonus is to work with someone with a good relationship with the bank and use that as a foundation to get started.
The Relationship Manager is a great way to bypass all the time and effort it would take for a new member to get to a good relationship standard with the bank.
Not only will you get the Relationship Manager, but you can also get my personal referral links to cards with an amazing sign-on bonus.
Having an established relationship manager is one of the biggest benefits of building up a bank relationship.
